Sudan- Take Action NOW!

What's going on in Sudan?
-The Southern Sudanese people are voting for independence from the Northern side, who are currently ruling Sudan right now. The Northern people want oil (from the South), while the Southern people just want to be left alone


Why should we care?
- We should care because this will create world peace, if the voting works, and other countries that have wars like Sudan can use it as a good example. The people of Sudan don't like war, because they lose friends and family members. If we take time to care and learn, we are taking action.


What can you do?
- You can watch the news and see what is going on in Sudan and you can educate other people, because knowing is taking action

Haiti- The Cost of Life

What human rights are being denied to them?

The basic needs because they do not have access to clean water and food.

What action is being taken to address this lack of rights?

They are giving aid to the people until they are able to take care of themselves

Discuss the difficulties faced by this country as it tries to recover from the earthquake.

Their resources are down and are unable to find food because of the resources they are left with.

Why can some countries rebuild faster than others, and what is it about Haiti that put it at a

disadvantage?

Some countries are able to rebuild faster because they are more developed economically and Haiti's disadvantages are because they are not as developed and have no resources.

Suggest how this country can cope in the forthcoming years.

By seeking aid from more developed countries, but not depending on them.

Third World Farmer

From the class blog, I learned that the challenges faced by farmers in less economically developed countries  (L.E.D.C.'s). They have to face the shock factors, which are drought, violence, flooding and disease, and other problems. They also don't have enough money and water, so they can't put their children to school and they can't get out of the cycle of poverty, and subsistence farmers can't earn enough money because they need to feed their family so they don't starve and die. Farming and poverty are linked to the development because farmers in LEDC's don't have enough income which means that they can't develop. When they have low income, they can't give their children education and they can only think about the short term goals (basic needs) and can't think about the future. This links to the SLR is to Reason Critically because while playing Third World Farmer, I had to think of what to do, and to either do the short term goals and long therm goals. From the blog, I learned of all the issues worldwide, and a lot of people are suffering worldwide and that it's impossible to get out of the cycle of poverty. Knowing this will affect me in the future because maybe when I am a successful lawyer, I would support an organization that supports farmers from LEDC's and maybe I can help change the world.

AIDS day reflection

I think that AIDS day was a success. This made me feel like I have contributed to the AIDS foundation and made me feel really happy. I think that we have changed someone's life by doing the charity, and I think that this have raised awareness to our school. The highlight of it was the assembly because people kept saying that the message was effective. The most memorable time was when we did people's nails because it was really fun. I think that the kids for AIDS day next year should cover all of people's interests so they can raise more money than we did. After taking part in a project like this, I learnt that it takes a lot of work to make it really successful.

What is Global Issues and why do I care?

Global Issues is a class in which we learn about all the world diseases and all about peace, and the things happening in the world. In global issues, we learn how to take part in all the different causes and learn how we can make a change in the world. I care because I want to make a difference in the world and want the world to be a peaceful place for everybody. Global Issues is important because maybe when we grow up, we might be able to make a donation, and we know where to give the money to, and maybe even volunteer.
